Extra Fieldwork Days Offered Today & Tomorrow ... and some progress notes
|
|
Dear All,
Please note that MERCIAN (archaeologists) have offered 2 extra match funding Fieldwork days to the Battle of Hatfield Investigation Society ... today and tomorrow (12th and 13th of November).
This is in addition to the 3 match funding Community days that they have already committed.
Hence this Friday (13th) will be our final Fieldwork day.
You are most welcome to engage with the activities via fieldwork or just as a casual observer at any point during these 2 welcome additional days - work will commence at 10am daily.
The Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) was completed last week (by a company called RSK Stats) and re. the Mass Burial pits discovered in December 1950 and into 1951, suggested that there were some, "hot spots" that might require further investigation as part of another phase of activity (for which major funding will be required).
However, on site diagnostics are unfortunately not a realistic proposition and RSK are now busy analysing the results back at base.
We eagerly await them !
Meanwhile, MERCIAN have been performing Topographic and Magnetometer Surveys in St. Mary's church yard and abutting fields to build up a picture of the landscape and to try to reveal features relating to Cuckney Castle.
MERCIAN have also used the Magnetometer to complement the search for the mass graves and are in the process of completing a positional mapping of each head stone using satellite technology.
Both MERCIAN and RSK will DEFINITELY deliver detailed results for use at our 2 final Community days at the Oaklands Centre in Warsop on 28th and 29th November, (10am to 4pm daily).
We also have our Annual General Meeting (A.G.M.) next Friday (20th November) at Cuckney Vilage Hall, starting at 7:30pm.
We expect to be able to announce some preliminary details from the fieldwork activities there as well.
Please note that Admission is free to both the Community Days and our A.G.M.
See you there !
Finally - a large thank you to the Heritage Lottery fund for making all of this possible.
From All The Team
